Beatitudes Center DOAR

My labor of love, I call it, is working as Outreach Director for one of the programs of Beatitudes Center DOAR (Developing Older Adult Resources), a nonprofit interfaith organization dedicated to enhancing the qualty of life for older adults and their families.

Founded in 1981, the brainchild of Rev. Dr. Dosia Carlson (more about her in subsequent postings), Beatitudes Center DOAR began to look at some of the challenges of aging long before the media was chock-a-block with articles and sound-bites  about the retirement of the first of the baby boomer generation and what that may mean for our society.  The mission of Beatitudes Center DOAR is to turn some of the challenges which come along as we advance on life’s path into opportunities, helping to keep folks  active and empowered and “plugged into”  the wider community.  We promote health and well-being through a broad range of community-based services that assist homebound adults, family caregivers, grandparents raising grandchildren and congregational health programs.

In this blog we will share information and resources about these services, some of the happenings at our office, comments about aging and the human experience in general and whatever else comes to mind to share.
